[JAPAN's Health Industry] The First of the 2018 Drugstores Sales worth JPY114 billion, which is Up by 7.5% in Health Foods

On 29 October, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry published its Preliminary Report on the Current Survey of Commerce, and it revealed that health foods sales at drugstores from April to September 2018 were up by 7.5%, compared to the previous year. In summer, the supplements sold well. Inbound is in good condition and also the number of drugstores is increasing.

From the same report, sales at drugstores in the first part of 2018 amounted to JPY 3,241.3 billion, up by 5.6% compared to the previous year. By category, sales of “foods” such as sweets and daily necessities were at JPY 904.3 billion occupying 28% of the total market, and which are up by 9.4% compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, sales of health foods such as Aojiru and weight-loss supplements were at JPY114.2 billion up by 7.5% compared to the previous year. Also, the total sales of beauty care such as cosmetics and cosmetic products were at JPY 495.8 billion up by 6.4% compared to the previous year, because of the inbound effect.
